Well, you're right in that he's not quite chibi (fyi, a good rule of thumb for chibi/Super-Deformed is to map everyone's anatomy to that of Calvin's from Calvin and Hobbes, regardless of size and gender!), but he is very manga-ish.
And the color! ACK! You got the highlight and refracted light and.... and it's many many degrees of AWESOME. The background, she is quite nice and texturized, as well!
And don't fret about the web... it's essentially mucus, right? It's supposed to look a little off-putting!
